Molana Malik Dad Kalati was born in Kandahar (Afghanistan) in 17th century. His father’s name was “Aadain”. After completion of religious education at his home town, he left Kandahar and reached in the court of Khan Naseer Khan Noori in 18th century. His court was famous for the meetings of great personalities. Malik Dad Kalati was also a well-educated person. He settled over there forever.

According to current researches, it has been proved that Malik Dad Kalati is the first Brahui poet, who had written a book of poems. The book has been published with the name of “Tohfatul Ajaib”. He wrote this book in the court of Naseer Khan Noori in July 1760 A.D. Prominent religious scholar and poet Molana Nabo Jan published the book for the first time in 1905.

“Tohfatul Ajaib” is divided into 40 sub portions, in which there are 275 verses. The book begins with the attribution of Almighty ALLAH, followed by eulogy of the HOLY PROPHET (PEACE BE UPON HIM). He has described the Hell and Heaven and has also told us about knowledge. Moreover, prayers, congregational prayers, kinds of belief, fasting, Traveeh (Prayers) pomp display of wealth (sarsaya), voluntary fasting, proficiency of fasting, and pilgrimage have been described in the book.

The draft of the book was completed in 1173 A.H but unfortunately its original text remained extinct. Brahui academy Pakistan republished the book in 2001. Except “Tohfatul Ajaib” there is no book of Molana Kalati available. He died in Kalat but his grave is unknown. Agha Naseer Ahmed Zai writes that “Malik Dad Kalati was buried in next to the kalat city”. There is no sign on his grave so it is unknown but it is sure that he is buried in graveyard which is present next to the Kalat city.
